# Installation

AutoCam is compatible with **Blender 4.0+** across Windows, macOS, and Linux.\
The **Extensions** install path is supported from Blender **4.2+** onwards.

Don’t unzip the download. You’ll install the `.zip` directly.

### Option A: Install as an Extension <mark style="color:$info;">(Blender 4.2+)</mark>

1. **Download** the addon  `.zip`  file.
2. In Blender: \
   **Edit** → **Preferences** → **Get Extensions** → **Install from Disk**.
3. Select the ZIP file → **Install from Disk**.&#x20;
4. Access AutoCam user preferences from the **Add-ons** menu.
5. Save & close Preferences → in 3D View press **N** → open the **AutoCam** tab.

**Tip:** You can search for AutoCam directly inside the **Get Extensions** panel without downloading manually (requires internet access).

### Option B: Install as an Add-on <mark style="color:$info;">(Blender 4.0–4.1)</mark>

1. **Download** the addon  `.zip`  file.
2. In Blender:\
   **Edit** → **Preferences** → **Add-ons** → **Install…**
3. Select the ZIP → **Install Add-on** → enable **AutoCam**. You should be able to access user preferences.
4. Save & close Preferences → in 3D View press **N** → open the **AutoCam** tab.

### Option C: Updating from an older version

**Extensions:**&#x20;

1. Remove the previous version:\
   **Edit** → **Preferences** → **Get Extensions** → **AutoCam** → **Uninstall.**
2. Restart Blender (important).
3. Follow the installation steps in [Option A](#option-a-install-as-an-extension-blender-4.2) to reinstall.

**Add-ons:**

1. **Edit** → **Preferences** → **Add-ons** → search “**AutoCam**”
2. Expand the AutoCam panel and click on **Remove**.
3. Restart Blender (important).
4. Follow the installation steps in [Option B](#option-b-install-as-an-add-on-blender-4.0-4.1) to reinstall.

**Tip:** If you installed AutoCam using the **Blender Extensions Platform** (*Search Extensions*), you can update it by navigating to **Get Extensions** → **AutoCam** → **Update** (requires internet access).
